As The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorses Jeff Flake, Arizonans Are Reminded That Richard Carmona Supports Higher Taxes

Carmona Wants To Raise Taxes On Small Business Owners, Which Would Kill 13,000 Jobs In Arizona

PHOENIX – As the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce endorse Jeff Flake for his pro-jobs record, today the Arizona Republican Party is reminding voters that Richard Carmona’s supports raising taxes on small business owners across the state of Arizona.

A few weeks ago, Carmona came out and said that he supports raising taxes small businesses owners. Then this past week, Carmona doubled-down on his position of higher taxes when he told The Hill that he supports the Democrats’ efforts to raise taxes on small business owners, by refusing to support a full renewal of the 2001 and 2003 Republican tax cuts.

As The Hill reports:
"I would be willing to enter into discussion to say, people making over $250 or $300 or $500 [thousand] could pay, and you know, I’m a high wage-earner, and if I had to do that to help out for the next year, OK, I’ll do that.” (Alex Jaffe, Senate Candidate Carmona Has Dems Seeing Blue In Red-State Arizona, The Hill, 9/24/12)

Notably, Carmona’s healthcare law also includes a destructive medical device tax, that according to experts within the industry could kill 45,000 jobs.
"Richard Carmona – the handpicked candidate of President Obama – is the only candidate running who wants to raise taxes on small business owners, which according to reports could kill 13,000 jobs in Arizona,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert. "With nearly 250,000 unemployed Arizonans, we can’t afford Richard Carmona’s job-killing tax increases and it’s why we need Republican Congressman Jeff Flake who has a proven record of enacting pro-growth, pro-jobs policies.”

BACKGROUND ...

Carmona Supports Raising Taxes On Small Business Owners In Arizona

In September 2012, Richard Carmona Said That He Was Ok With Repealing The 2001 And 2003 Tax Cuts On"Higher Level” Income Earners. QUESTION:"Would you vote to repeal the Bush tax cuts?” CARMONA:"That’s a tough one, here is the issue on the Bush tax cuts right now. If we, it is a very complex issue, if we repeal them now, who gets hurt the most? If we just tax everybody, who’s going to get hurt the most? It is the poor people and the middle class, ok. People who are making a good living they may pay a little more but their house is not going to be in jeopardy, they are still going to make their car payments, they are still going to take vacation, so I think what makes sense right now is if you did repeal it, repeal it so that you protect the middle and lower class if you will. But on the other hand, if others at the higher level get taxed temporarily, I don’t have a problem with that.” (Stephen Lemons,"Jeff Flake-Foe Rich Carmona on Taxes, the Deficit, and Immigration,” Phoenix New Times, 9/17/12; Tempe Office Opening, www.youtube.com, 9/15/12)

And His HealthCare Law Raises Contains a Job-Killing Medical Device Tax

ObamaCare’s Medical Device Tax Could Cost $20 Billion. Medical-device manufacturers and their advocates want to eliminate a 2.3 percent excise tax included in the federal health-care overhaul. Industry officials say the tax, which takes effect in January, would cost manufacturers about $20 billion during the next decade. (Ben Sutherly, Medical-device makers fight tax, Columbus Dispatch, 05/15/12)

AdvaMed Says Kerry’s Medical Device Tax Could Kill 45,000 Jobs Nationwide. "Boston Scientific’s chief executive yesterday ripped a tax on medical devices slated for 2013 and anticipated major layoffs at the Natick company if the levy — part of President Obama’s health-care overhaul — isn’t repealed. ... Elliott’s comments came a week after trade group AdvaMed released a study finding that the 2.3 percent federal excise tax would lead to more than 45,000 job losses nationwide ...” (Greg Turner, Boston Scientific CEO: Medical tax will mean job cuts, Boston Herald, 09/15/11)

ICYMI Boehner taps Vernon Parker for GOP's weekly address.

@DanNowicki:
Republican Vernon Parker, who is locked in a tight battle with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema for the swing seat in Congressional District 9, will deliver the Republican weekly address on Saturday.

House Speaker John Boehner chose Parker, a former Paradise Valley mayor, to give the address. He will follow President Barack Obama’s weekly radio address.

Boehner, in a prepared statement, called Parker one of the party’s rising stars and said he is eager to hear his remarks.
"We need principled leaders who will come to Congress and join Republicans in the fight to help create a better environment for jobs growth by addressing our looming debt crisis and stopping all the looming tax hikes which, according to Ernst & Young, could destroy up to 700,000 jobs,” Boehner said." Vernon Parker is an independent thinker and a rising star in the Republican Party who is committed to listening to the people of Arizona and restoring the American Dream. I’m sure Vernon will do a great job outlining what is at stake in this election, and I’m looking forward to hearing his address.”

Cory Fritz, a spokesman for Boehner, said Parker and the speaker met briefly last week in Washington. He said Parker is the first House candidate this cycle to be chosen to deliver the radio address.
"We feel like he's in a great position to win on November 6th,” Fritz said in an email.

The address will be at www.youtube.com/user/HouseConference

Congressional District 9 includes parts of Paradise Valley, central Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler and Ahwatukee Foothills. It was added this year during redistricting to reflect population gains during the 2010 census.

Arpaio Campaign Reaches $8 MILLION Mark

PHOENIX, AZ – Sheriff Joe Arpaio filed his campaign finance report for the post-primary election period of 2012. The period covers August 9th through September 17th of this year.

Kyrsten Sinema’s Beguiled Ad Did she forget about Leeches and her Medicaid vote? AZ09

Phoenix, AZ – Today the Vernon Parker campaign released the following analysis of Kyrsten Sinema’s new misleading ad:
"In radical leftist Kyrsten Sinema’s new ad she claims to be a friend to moms but called them ‘leeches,’ and Sinema claims she protects kids but voted to kick 280,000 of the neediest Arizonans off of Medicaid. It’s the latest example of Kyrsten Sinema saying one thing to get elected, but doing another in office,” said Alyssa Pivirotto, Parker's Communications Director.

FACT: According to a January 20, 2011, Arizona Daily Star article,"State Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Olivia Cajero Bedford voted Thursday to allow a bill to move forward that would authorize the state to ask for a Medicaid waiver request from the federal government.”

FACT: According to a April 13, 2012, Phoenix New Times article, Sinema said"’These women who act like staying at home, leeching off their husbands or boyfriends, and just cashing the checks is some sort of feminism because they’re choosing to live that life. That’s bullshit. I mean, what the f*** are we really talking about here?"

Jonathan Paton Releases First TV Ad,"Spending” in AZ01.

Paton leads by example while Ann Kirkpatrick continually breaks our trust

Jonathan Paton released his first television ad today, highlighting the clear contrast in the race for Arizona’s First Congressional District.

The ad outlines how Ann Kirkpatrick brought her campaign staff onto her congressional payroll after losing in 2010, and then rewarded them with taxpayer-funded bonuses. In total, Kirkpatrick wasted more than $100,000 on staff bonuses, including $20,000 for campaign aides.

Kirkpatrick’s blatant abuse of power is matched up next to Jonathan Paton’s record of protecting taxpayer dollars and leading by example, voluntarily enlisting for service in Iraq during the darkest days of the war.
"Jonathan Paton has a record of leading by example, both as a reformer at the state Capitol and as a soldier in Iraq,” said Barrett Marson, campaign spokesman."Ann Kirkpatrick broke our trust and wasted our money, even after Arizonans rejected her.”

The ad, titled"Spending,” is running on Phoenix broadcast starting today.

Richard Carmona Gets Caught Running From President Obama's Healthcare Law. AZSEN

The Fact Is Richard Carmona Is A Strong Proponent Of Government-Run Healthcare

PHOENIX – Over two years ago, Richard Carmona made it very clear that he supported Obamacare, which may be why he’s the only Democrat in the entire country who was personally recruited by President Obama to run for the U.S. Senate. Now with the President’s approval rating at 43 percent in Arizona, Carmona is trying to run away from Mr. Obama and his job-killing healthcare law.

Yesterday, Richard Carmona said he wouldn’t support anyone else’s healthcare plan. Yet it wasn’t too long ago that Carmona called President Obama"brave” for ramming his $1.76 trillion healthcare law through Congress.

Notably, a new ad is out reminding Arizonans that while Richard Carmona will be a reliable vote for President Obama’s liberal agenda, Jeff Flake will always fight for Arizona.

"You can tell the election is getting close, because even Barack Obama’s handpicked candidate, Richard Carmona is trying to run from his support from the President’s job-killing healthcare law,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert. "Not only does Carmona support ObamaCare, he’s called President Obama brave for ramming his healthcare law through Congress, and it’s why we need Jeff Flake a proven reformer who will repeal this law and get our country working again.”

RICHARD CARMONA: I'm not here to defend anyone else's plan. (Richard Carmona, Military Officers Association of America Event In Tucson, 9/26/12)

BUT IT WON’T HIDE THE FACT THAT HE STRONGLY SUPPORTS PRESIDENT OBAMA’S HEALTHCARE LAW

RICHARD CARMONA: "Carmona served as the 17th surgeon general of the United States under President George W. Bush. Last year, he participated in series of health care town halls that the congresswoman held in Tucson, Sierra Vista and Green Valley. ‘The issue facing our country is how do we get the best care for the most people at the least cost,’ Carmona said. ‘We spend more for health care than any other nation on Earth, but the metrics of our results don’t reflect that. We need to move toward a health care system, not the sick care system that we have today. This legislation moves us closer to that. This bill is not perfect. But these are complex issues and we must move forward. And then I hope we can sit down with level heads and make it even better for the benefit of the American people.’” (“U.S. Rep. Phoenix Television Station Calls New Attack Ad Claims Against Vernon Parker"Fiction” AZ09.

Phoenix, AZ – On the same day the Vernon Parker campaign demanded that a defamatory ad be pulled from all Valley TV stations, ABC15 released a fact check on that ad ruling almost every claim"FICTION”.

Click here to see the ABC15 fact check.

Claim from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ad:

"Parker touted a plan that would replace Medicare, leaving seniors at the mercy of insurance companies, costing them an extra $6,400 a year.”

The FACT? ABC15 labeled it FICTION saying:
"In an interview earlier this month, Parker does talk about looking at entitlements when asked about the Paul Ryan budget but doesn’t reference Medicare specifically. In fact, just a few moments later in the interview Parker says, ‘we have to honor our commitment with seniors.’

Claim from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ad:
"Parker would end the Social Security guarantee.”

The FACT? ABC15 labeled it FICTION saying:
"The ad references a candidate forum from June of this year in which Parker does say"everything must be on the table” when it comes to social security but does not say he’d end the social security guarantee as the ad claims.

Claim from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ad:
"Abolish the Department of Education... which could cost Arizona schools 800 million dollars.”

The FACT? It should be labeled MISLEADING:

Vernon Parker has said the Dept of Education should go so that the money Arizonans send to Washington to fund the agency would instead stay in our state making education local.

Want the real FACTS? Check out this ad at just hit airwaves. Then you’ll learn who Vernon Parker really is.

Jeff Flake Releases Plan for Economic Growth and Prosperity, AZSEN @JeffFlake

PHOENIX – Jeff Flake today released a sound and sensible plan to address the nation’s weak economy and jobs market – which has only been worsened during the last four years of President Obama’s failed economic policies. Flake’s plan outlines six steps that, if enacted, will help stabilize the America’s economy and markets and return the country to a prosperous path.

Jeff Flake’s plan calls for moving forward with comprehensive tax reform, halting the Obama Administration’s regulatory overreach, taking advantage of readymade economic opportunities, ensuring the U.S. economy has the best and the brightest, jumpstarting domestic energy development, and supporting free trade agreements and expanding exports.

These are policies that Jeff Flake has fought for in the House, and he’ll continue to fight for them in the Senate.
"The liberal policies of President Obama and the congressional Democrats have failed to improve to economy over the last four years and added trillions of dollars in debt that will cripple future generations,” said Jeff Flake."By taking the steps in this commonsense plan, we can stimulate the economy, spurring job creation and getting our country back on track.”

A PDF copy of the plan can be seen here.

Arizona’s Jeff Flake is committed to supporting policies that reduce spending, lower tax rates, and limit burdensome regulation. As the leader in the fight to end the corrupt practice of earmarks, Jeff Flake proved that one man could make a difference. He is nationally recognized as one of the most consistent, fiscally responsible members in Congress, and is endorsed by respected spending watchdog organizations like the Citizens Against Government Waste, the National Taxpayers Union, and Americans for Prosperity. In the Senate, Flake will be a check and balance on both parties in order to fight for Arizona.

Combat Veteran & Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery Supports Jeff Flake. AZSEN @JeffFlake

Cites Flake’s commitment to national security and liberty.

PHOENIX – Following the launch yesterday of Democrat Richard Carmona’s negative attack ad against Jeff Flake, attempting to paint him as anti-veteran, another highly respected Arizona veteran is speaking out.

Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery today expressed support of Jeff Flake’s record, saying:"As a combat veteran, I want a senator who recognizes that the primary function of the federal government is national security and liberty. Jeff Flake is the candidate for the job.”

Bill Montgomery is a West Point graduate and Gulf War veteran. He received a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service for his contribution in the liberation of Kuwait, the defeat of Saddam Hussein and the safe return of the 15 soldiers he led.

Richard Carmona’s rollout of his nasty attack ad didn’t turn out quite they way his campaign hoped. The Flake campaign quickly answered Carmona’s false, partisan accusation. Arizona’s respected senior Senator, John McCain, who is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran and a former prisoner of war, also weighed in yesterday. McCain levied harsh criticism against Richard Carmona’s decision to engage in partisan attacks and defended Jeff Flake’s commitment to those who serve our nation.

Arizona’s Jeff Flake has a strong record of standing up for our nation’s veterans and servicemen and women, and that’s a record he will continue in the Senate. Below is a sampling of freestanding pro-veteran legislation that he has supported during his time in Congress.

Richard Carmona’s Economic Plan Higher Taxes On Small Business Owners In Arizona.

WASHINGTON — While U.S. Congressman Jeff Flake has unveiled his six point plan for economic growth and prosperity, earlier this week Democrat Richard Carmona revealed that his economic plan was to double-down on President Obama’s failed economic policies of higher taxes and more government spending. (www.jeffflake.com/2012/09/jeff-flake-releases-plan...erity)

Carmona told The Hill that he will oppose a full extension of the 2001 and 2003 Congressional tax cuts. According to reports, this will cost small business owners in Arizona with $3.5 billion in lost economic output and could kill 13,000 jobs in the Grand Canyon State.

As The Hill reports:
"I would be willing to enter into discussion to say, people making over $250 or $300 or $500 [thousand] could pay, and you know, I’m a high wage-earner, and if I had to do that to help out for the next year, OK, I’ll do that.” (Alex Jaffe, Senate Candidate Carmona Has Dems Seeing Blue In Red-State Arizona, The Hill, 9/24/12) (thehill.com/homenews/campaign/251389-carmona-has-d...ariz-)

Notably, Carmona is also a strong supporter of President Obama’s $1.76 trillion, job-killing healthcare law.
"Richard Carmona’s economic plan is quite simple: he stands united with his fellow liberal Democrats in raising taxes on small business owners in Arizona, which could kill 13,000 jobs in the Grand Canyon State,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox. "It’s no surprise President Obama recruited Richard Carmona to run for Senate, because he will clearly be a reliable vote for the President’s tax-and-spend agenda. Arizonans need Jeff Flake who has a plan that will actually reduce the debt and get our country working again.”

Richard Carmona's Economic Plan Is To Rubberstamp President Obama's Failed Economic Policies Into Law AZSEN

Results In More Spending And Higher Taxes For Families In Arizona

PHOENIX – One year ago, President Barack Obama personally called Democrat Richard Carmona to run for the U.S. Senate and today the Arizona Republican Party is reminding voters that Carmona’s economic plan is to rubberstamp the Democrats’ failed economic policies into law.

Carmona was a staunch supporter of President Obama's healthcare law and even called Obama"brave” for spending $1.76 trillion on government-run healthcare. It’s worth noting that Obama's healthcare law has raised taxes on middle-class families and has killed jobs across our country.

Additionally, Carmona recently told The Hill that he supports the Democrats’ efforts to raise taxes on small business owners, by refusing to support a full renewal of the 2001 and 2003 Republican tax cuts.
"Given that Richard Carmona is the handpicked candidate of President Barack Obama, it’s no wonder his economic plan consists of higher taxes and a job-killing healthcare law,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert. "Arizonans need Jeff Flake who has led the charge against wasteful spending and will work to get Arizona’s economy working again.”

Arizona congressional candidate Martha McSally tells Newsmax.TV that Democratic Rep. Ron Barber’s description of the GOP as a"bunch of white guys” epitomizes the divisiveness that has paralyzed Congress.
"He prides himself on being civil and not a politician — and he gets to Washington, D.C., and within a couple of months, he’s coming up with a divisive, name-calling, stereotyping rhetoric that we’re seeing,” McSally says in an exclusive interview."This is not helpful right now and it’s not what the American people are looking for — and it’s certainly not what the people of southern Arizona are looking for.
"He’s immediately become a politician, and he’s just starting with the divisiveness,” she added."This isn’t solving the problems that are facing our country right now. This is not solving our debt. This is not getting our economy going again. It’s not putting people back to work, and it’s just not helpful.”

McSally, a Republican, is a retired Air Force colonel who has flown over Iraq and Afghanistan. She was the first American woman to pilot combat missions.

Barber won a special election in June to complete the term of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered a head wound when a gunman opened fire on her and killed six other people in January 2011.

A Giffords aide, Barber was also shot and wounded in the incident.

In a meeting this week with the editorial board of the Arizona Daily Star, Barber said he is a Democrat because the party fights for the disenfranchised and represents a cross-section of ethnicities and religions, while Republicans are a"bunch of white guys.”

McSally was in the session.
"Honestly, I was very shocked,” she said."I was literally right next to him going, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I’m your Republican opponent — and here I am a woman who is a retired military officer.
"This is exactly the kind of divisiveness that everybody’s frustrated with. So I called him on it right there in the room.”

She believes her military experience will hold her in great stead on Capitol Hill.
"What we need right now is leadership, and what we need right now are people that have more courage, that are going to knuckle down and solve our problems, get things done, bring teams of people together. That’s what you learn how to do in the military, and that’s certainly what the people of my district are looking for.
"It’s about leadership,” she added."It’s about somebody’s who’s got the experience, the education and the guts to be able to solve the problems that are facing us — and my service to my country has trained me for that.”

McSally said she was heartened by the large number of Republican women running for Congress.
"We are better off when we have a fabric of what America represents represented in Congress to serve and fight for the people. What we need are people who are qualified, capable, thoughtful, and who bring leadership — and these other gals and myself, in addition to a number of the men that are running, are going to bring that this year.”

Former Speaker & Republican Candidate Kirk Adams Endorses Salmon for AZ05 Election.

Calls for others to unite behind Salmon's bid to return to Congress

EAST VALLEY - Matt Salmon, former Congressman and Republican nominee for Arizona's 5th congressional district, today proudly announced the endorsement of former Arizona Speaker of the House and CD-5 Republican primary candidate Kirk Adams. In a strong show of unity, Speaker Adams released the following statement:

"It was a close and vigorous primary campaign and the voters made their choice. That choice is Matt Salmon. He is now the only candidate in the race with the capacity to defend free enterprise from the attacks being waged by the Obama Administration. When it comes time to choose between free enterprise or big government, he will choose free enterprise. As I head to the polls this November, Matt Salmon will have my support, and I urge others to support him too."

"I am grateful to receive the support from Speaker Kirk Adams," stated former Congressman Salmon. "He is one of Arizona's brightest leaders and has demonstrated his firm commitment to defending liberty and free enterprise at the state level. Throughout the primary election, we both campaigned on the message of fiscal responsibility and limited government. I look forward to working with leaders like Speaker Adams to return these principles to our government and get us back on the road to growth and prosperity."

About Speaker Kirk Adams
Kirk Adams is a husband, father, and small business owner. He is a partner at the Adams Agency, which has been ranked the insurance agency by Ranking Arizona. Adams is a lifelong resident of the East Valley. After joining the state House in 2006, he became so frustrated by the unwillingness and inability of Republicans in the Legislature to stand up for their conservative principles that he launched a long-shot campaign to oust the veteran Speaker of the House. Adams shocked the Republican establishment and political class, winning the Speakership at only 35 years of age. Adams turned the tide in the House and put Arizona back on the path to fiscal responsibility with an aggressive agenda of reform, courageously taking on some of the most challenging issues in Arizona.

About Matt Salmon
Matt Salmon was first elected to the United States Congress in 1994 and served until 2000, honoring his term limit pledge. Salmon was rated in the top five among all 535 members of the House and Senate by Citizen's Against Government Waste for all six years he was in office. He is a lifetime member of the NRA with an A+ rating and also earned a 100% rating by the National Right to Life. He was also the proud recipient of the American Cancer Society's "Top National Elected Official" award.

Senator McCain Calls Carmona Attack"The Kind of Politics Arizonans Are Sick and Tired of."

PHOENIX – Democrat Richard Carmona launched a desperate negative ad today accusing Jeff Flake of voting against our nation’s veterans and servicemen and women. United States Senator John McCain, a highly-decorated Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war, responded to the charge, saying:
"Dr. Carmona’s false and negative attack on Jeff Flake is exactly the kind of politics that Arizonans are sick and tired of. These kinds of attacks aren’t going to help a single Arizona veteran get better care. I’ve worked with Jeff Flake on veterans issues for 12 years, so I know first hand that his commitment to Arizona veterans is strong. I look forward to working with him in the U.S. Senate to further advocate for the men and women who have served our nation.”

Arizona’s Jeff Flake has a strong record of standing up for our nation’s veterans and servicemen and women, and that’s a record he will continue in the Senate. Below is a sampling of freestanding pro-veteran legislation that he has supported during his time in Congress.

Ron Barber Protects Solyndra-Like Solar Company’s Ability to Get Taxpayer-Funded Loan. Arizona Dem @RonBarberAZ Chooses to Continue Reckless Gambles Over Fiscal Restraint in

WASHINGTON --- Recently, Ron Barber voted to ensure his party could continue to give middle-class families’ tax dollars to solar companies like SoloPower that are structured eerily similar to now-bankrupt Solyndra (Roll Call , 9/14/2012). How can Barber ignore the signs and champion all the same, reckless policies that waste hundreds of millions of struggling families’ hard-earned tax dollars?
"Even with their record of failure, Ron Barber and his Washington leaders are prepared to throw more taxpayer dollars at now-bankrupt Solyndra sister companies,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay."Barber cannot restrain himself when it comes to being presented with another way to spend taxpayer dollars as he continues to support companies like SoloPower who are fated to join failed companies like Solyndra.”

There are several red flags about SoloPower but nevertheless, under Washington Democrats’ watch, it’s getting closer to receiving a government loan guarantee:
"A tiny solar company named SoloPower will flip the switch on production at a U.S. factory Thursday, a major step toward allowing it to tap a $197 million government loan guarantee awarded under the same controversial program that supported failed panel maker Solyndra.”
"Still, there are several similarities between SoloPower and Solyndra...” (Nichola Groom,"US poised to hand over $197 mln to another solar panel start-up,” Reuters, 9/24/2012)

NRSC to Richard @CarmonaforAZ Are Economic & Diplomatic Failures Just Bumps In The Road? AZSEN

WASHINGTON — The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is asking President Obama’s handpicked candidate Richard Carmona today to tell Arizonans whether or not he shares President Obama’s view that the serious problems we have seen on the economy and the recent turmoil in the Middle East are just"bumps in the road.”

Speaking on CBS’ 60 Minutes last night about the current problems in the Middle East, President Obama said:
"I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road...” (CBS’s"60 Minutes,” 9/23/12)

These are the same words he used about our economic problems in a speech last year:
"There are always going to be bumps on the road to recovery.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks, Toledo, OH, 6/3/11)
"It’s typical of President Obama and the Democrat leadership to dismiss serious problems as being ‘bumps in the road’. While they might just be inconvenient to them, to everyone else, these ‘bumps in the road’ are real and they amount to some of the biggest diplomatic and economic challenges we’ve seen in our lifetime,” NRSC spokesman Jahan Wilcox said today. "Given that Richard Carmona is the handpicked candidate of President Obama, he needs tell Arizonans whether he shares the President’s casual view of the position we’re in. Voters want and expect strong leadership from Government and real policy solutions, and these are things we are not seeing from Democrats in Washington these days.”

President Obama and congressional Democrats are dismissive of these problems even as evidence mounts about the scale of the challenges this country faces. On the economy, the recovery continues to be long, slow and hard for families across America:

More Than Twenty-Three Million Americans Are Unemployed, Underemployed, Or Have Stopped Looking For Work. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, 9/10/12)

The Latest Jobs Report Showed The"Economy Slogged Along For The 43rd Month In A Row With Joblessness Above 8 Percent.”"American employers added 96,000 jobs in August, the Labor Department reported Friday. The unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent as the economy slogged along for the 43rd month in a row with joblessness above 8 percent.” (Susanna Kim,"August Jobs Report: Unemployment Falls To 8.1 Percent,” ABC News, 9/7/12)

In August, The Unemployment Rate Either Increased Or Was Unchanged In 38 States."The Labor Department says rates increased in 26 states. They fell in 12 states and were unchanged in the other 12.” (Christopher S. Rugaber,"Unemployment Rates Rise In Half Of US States,” The Associated Press, 9/21/12)
"A Record 46.7 Million Americans Received Food Stamps In June...”"A record 46.7 million Americans received food stamps in June, up 0.4 percent from the previous month, the government said. Participation was 3.3 percent higher than a year earlier and has remained higher than 46 million all year as the unemployment rate has stagnated just above 8 percent. New jobless numbers will be released Sept. 7.” (Alan Bjera,"Food-Stamp Use Climbed To Record 46.7 Million In June, U.S. Says,” Bloomberg, 9/4/12)

In the Middle East, commentators worry about the direction the Middle East is taking:

The Wall Street Journal:"Mideast Turmoil Spreads” (The Wall Street Journal, 9/14/12)

Bloomberg:"U.S. Officials Concerned Over What Follows Arab Spring” (Bloomberg, 9/12/12)

Vernon Parker Accepts Debate Invitation in CD-9 Race. AZ09

Phoenix, AZ – Congressional Republican Candidate Vernon Parker will go head-to-head with his Democratic opponent in a televised debate next month hosted by Channel 8 Horizon. The forum will provide an opportunity for Parker to outline his plans and goals for CD9 and to juxtapose his position with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema’s radical leftist agenda.

Just last week, Sinema challenged Vernon Parker to a debate about education. And while Parker believes education should be a pivotal element of the debates, he does not believe it should be the only element. Parker believes voters in CD9 deserve to know where both candidates stand on the issues important to them, including how both candidates plan to get the economy back on track and Arizonans back to work.

Below is the letter sent from the Parker campaign in response to Sinema’s challenge.

September 24, 2012

Kyrsten Sinema
123 E Baseline Rd. D-202
Tempe, AZ 85283

Dear Kyrsten,

Thank you for your letter on September 18 requesting a debate on television. Today I have informed KTVK and KPNX that I will participate in their proposed debates.

I sincerely look forward to debating you on all of the issues including education.

As you know, during your time in the Arizona Legislature our kids have continued to fail at the basics. According to NAEP only 32% of Arizona 4th graders are proficient or advanced in reading skills, and only 35% are proficient or advanced in math skills. That means our education system is failing nearly 70% of our kids. It’s appalling.
However during your time in the Legislature you focused your energy on passing"medically accurate” sex education, in fact you introduced this legislation nearly every year. While I agree sex education is important, even more important is to teach our kids to read, write, and do math. I believe the people of Arizona would agree with me.
Sadly for Arizona kids, this is just another example of you putting your radical agenda above their needs.

I support educational choice, bringing innovation to the classroom, holding teachers accountable, ensuring funding is protected for public schools, protecting and increasing Pell Grants and making sure money destined for the classroom isn’t wasted by Washington bureaucrats. In Congress, I will work to reform NCLB as it clearly is broken, and push for constant testing which will allow for immediate remediation so that our kids can get the educational intervention they need and don’t fall drastically behind. I will enumerate even more priorities I have for education reform in the weeks to come.
I look forward to these debates and will see you on the trail.
Sincerely,

Vernon Parker

*More details on the debate will be released shortly.

Ridiculously Misleading! DCCC Ad Uses a Facebook Page"Like” for Justification in False Attack in AZ09

Phoenix, AZ – Today, the Vernon Parker for Congress campaign reacted to the false and misleading ad created by the DCCC, which lied about Vernon Parker’s position on cuts to Medicare.
"I unequivocally oppose any plan to cut or replace Medicare. I have publicly and repeatedly stated this position throughout this campaign. To have the DCCC clearly lie about my record is another example of how desperate they are to fool the voters,” said Vernon Parker.

AD CLAIM: Parker touted a plan that would replace Medicare, leaving seniors at the mercy of insurance companies...costing them an extra $6400 a year...

But according to the DCCC’s own website, www.dccc.org/races/district/arizonas_9th their justification of making this attack, was that on Facebook, Vernon liked a comment about Paul Ryan.

See it for yourself, from the DCCC"Vernon Parker Research Book”, p. 11 (it is a Google doc on the bottom of the page for the link above):

Here is the link cited above, for this justification, www.facebook.com/parkerforcongress/posts/101518680...66808 and a screen shot of that posting:

Perhaps the DCCC should follow their own advice, from the Cover Page of their"Vernon Parker Research Book”

RNC Co-Chair Statement on Obama Campaign Suggestion That Women Don’t Care About Last Four Years.

WASHINGTON - RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day released the following statement in response to Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter’s comments to NPR suggesting women are not concerned about the last four years:
"The Obama campaign is deluding themselves if they believe women are ‘not really concerned about what’s happened over the last four years,’” said Co-Chair Day.
"In reality, mothers have sat horrified as they’ve watched their children’s future become mortgaged by $5.4 trillion in new debt under President Obama. Businesswomen have struggled to keep their small businesses afloat as they become weighed down by Obamacare and massive regulations. Working women have fewer job opportunities and more women today are living in poverty than at any point in the last 17 years.
"You bet we’re concerned about the last four years, and that’s why women are going to make sure the next four years offer a real recovery under a Romney-Ryan administration.”

Dems Criticize, Running Away from Obama

Richard Carmona Visits Washington DC for Anniversary of President Obama's Phone Call Recruiting Him to Run

Arizona Republican Party Sends Bouquet to Carmona to Celebrate Important Anniversary.

PHOENIX – What a difference a year makes! Just one year ago -- September 23, 2011 -- Richard Carmona received a phone call from President Obama who encouraged the Tucson resident to run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate. Carmona responded enthusiastically, and for the past year has busily embraced the liberal agenda of the Obama Administration on every issue from taxes, healthcare, abortion, to the redistribution of wealth -- all while collecting campaign checks from liberal interest groups and Senate Democrats like Harry Reid, Al Franken and Chuck Schumer.

In recognition of the anniversary of Obama's call recruiting Carmona, the Arizona Republican Party sent a bouquet of carnations to Carmona's campaign office in Phoenix. Carnations are the traditional symbol of the first anniversary of an important event.
"While Arizona is suffering from devastating unemployment and higher taxes from Obama's healthcare plan, Richard Carmona is jet-setting around Washington, DC, and rubbing elbows with wealthy liberals who are only going to make things worse,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert. "President Obama and his liberal cohorts have failed this country once already and Richard Carmona is part of their plan to do it again.”

BACKGROUND...

Richard Carmona Is The Handpicked Candidate Of President Barack Obama
"On September 23, President Obama called Richard Carmona to encourage him to run,” said one Democratic strategist. (Alexander Burns, Obama courts Ariz. Senate candidate, may contest state 'heavily', Politico, 10/06/11)

Carmona is one of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's favorite candidates and was personally courted by President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to get into the race. (David Catanese, Bivens clears the way for Carmona, Politico, 3/27/2012)

President Obama Promised The Stimulus Would ‘Create Or Save’ 3.5 Million Jobs

ASSOCIATED PRESS: The Obama administration is defending its claim that the $787 billion economic stimulus plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs before 2011 even while conceding that unemployment will likely continue to rise beyond its earlier predictions. (Stimulus plan will create or save 3.5 million jobs, White House says, Associated Press, 05/11/09)

Poverty and Unemployment Now Lasting Hallmarks of Obama Administration

In 2011, the official overall poverty rate was 15.0 percent. There were 46.2 million people in poverty in the U.S. ("Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2011" United States Census Bureau, Figure 4 and Table 3)

National unemployment rate for August 2011 is 8.1% (News Release, Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, 9/7/2012)

Household income nationally in 2011 was 8.1% lower than in 2007 ("Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2011" United States Census Bureau, Figure 1 and Table A-1)

WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee releases "By His Own Admission" after President Obama admitted that he can't change Washington--even though that was the central promise of his campaign four years ago. Maybe he's gotten too cozy with the lobbyists he hired in the White House or wasted too many taxpayer dollars on failed green energy companies like Solyndra.

"It's becoming clearer by the day that President Obama's campaign is a mirage," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. "'Yes We Can' was appealing to so many four years ago, but four years later, it's turned into 'No I Can't.' Barack Obama's campaign rationale in 2008 was his ability to change how things are done in Washington, but now he says that he can't change things at all and has instead become part of the problem. Washington is more broken, more divisive, and less respected than when Barack Obama was elected four years ago. Now, he says that Washington can only be changed from the outside. The American people will give him that opportunity this fall."

Richard Carmona Goes To Washington To Hang Out With His Liberal Allies

Uncertain If Carmona Will Visit With His Recruiter President Barack Obama

PHOENIX – After being the only Democrat in the entire country to be personally recruited by President Barack Obama and Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, tomorrow Richard Carmona will attend a fundraiser at the Caucus Room in Washington, D.C.

While it’s uncertain which Democrat Senators will attend this posh event, what is known is that some of the most liberal Democrats – like Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Al Franken – in the country have given thousands of dollars to Carmona, because they know he’ll be a rubberstamp for President Obama’s tax-and-spend agenda.
"After being the only Democrat in the entire country to be personally recruited by President Barack Obama, Richard Carmona is heading to Washington to raise money from his liberal allies,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert. "It’s just another reminder that Democrats in Washington are expecting Carmona to be a rubberstamp for President Obama’s failed agenda.”

Mitt Romney The Least We Can Do

Marco Rubio: Medicare is going broke. It's not politics. It's math. We can save Medicare for current retirees, if we accept that Medicare will be different for younger Americans than it is for their parents.

RNC Releases New Web Video "Redistribution II"

WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee releases the web video "Redistribution II" shedding light on President Obama's belief that redistributing wealth creates prosperity. If this were true, unemployment would be below 8%, we wouldn't have exploding deficits, or have a record number of people in poverty. The fact is redistribution has not worked, and America needs Governor Romney who embraces free enterprise to get American's back to work.

"The telling audio from Barack Obama's days as an Illinois State Senator only reaffirms his belief in a government-centered society," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. "His failed agenda over the past four years has promoted government dependency and has left this country struggling. America's choice this November has never been clearer. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will bring with them to the White House a plan that embraces free enterprise and will ensure more people have jobs and fewer people are dependent on government."

Democrat @RonBarberAZ calls Republicans 'a bunch of white guys.' AZ02

Remember the"War on Women?” Well, where does this fit in?

In yesterday’s Arizona Daily Star, Democrat Congressman Ron Barber was quoted saying that the Republican Party is"essentially a bunch of white guys.” His statement even made it into the headline.

On their face, Mr. Barber’s comments are ironic for obvious reasons, but his words are particularly shameful and insulting given who his Republican opponent is in November.

Barber is running against Martha McSally (AZ-02), a pioneering leader who has shattered the glass ceiling for women in uniform. McSally is the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, and first to command a fighter squadron in combat in United States history.

If that wasn’t enough, McSally earned national recognition in 2002 for successfully overturning a military policy requiring all U.S. servicewomen to wear a Muslim Abaya and headscarf when off base in Saudi Arabia.

McSally embodies the struggle women have made for generations. She is in a league of her own – a hero not only to women in uniform but any woman who has faced discriminatory barriers in her life or career.

McSally is, no doubt, used to having to listen to ignorant views like Mr. Barber’s over the years. But that doesn’t make Mr. Barber’s comments any less insulting.

McSally is just one of our stellar Republican female candidates running for Congress this year. She and her peers will join an already exceptional group of female members of Congress when they are elected in November.

These women have already demonstrated that Mr. Barber is not only wrong – he’s just plain ignorant.

Mia Love (UT-04): Mia Love served two terms on the city council of Saratoga Springs, one of Utah’s fastest growing cities. As City Councilwoman and eventually Mayor, Mia led the city through a period of 1700% population growth in a decade. Mia is best known for her conservative positions on limited government, increased citizen liberties and limited restraints on business. She believes the best thing she can do as mayor is stay out of the way of business and out of the lives of citizens. She is a wife and mother of 3 children. In her spare time Mia is an avid runner, tread trainer, and accomplished singer and dancer.

Maggie Brooks (NY-25): Maggie Brooks is well-known for her fiscally responsible leadership and commitment to serving the interests of local taxpayers as the first woman to be elected Monroe County Executive. Maggie has worked directly with local employers to help their businesses create over 15,000 jobs, retain over 70,000 jobs, and invest more than $3 billion in the local economy. Maggie has also established a rock solid record on property tax stability and fiscal restraint.

Kim Vann (CA-03): Kim Vann has been a successful businessperson for the past seven years. Prior to returning to the private sector, Vann served as a senior advisor to then-Congressman Doug Ose, protecting Northern California interests in the 2002 Farm Bill, securing funding for infrastructure improvements and challenging bureaucrats who resisted regulatory reform. Her strong beliefs in liberty, personal responsibility, public service and economic freedoms are deeply rooted.

Ann Wagner (MO-02): Ann Wagner has 25 years of work in the private sector, community and public service, and the political arena. At an early age, Ann started working beside her parents and learned the value of a dollar, a strong work ethic, honesty and integrity. After college, Ann went to work in the private sector and held management positions at Hallmark Cards. In 2005, following nomination by President Bush and confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Ann was sworn in as the 19th U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. She served as U.S. Ambassador for four years.

Susan Brooks (IN-05): Susan Brooks is a former U.S. Attorney and has extensive experience in the public and private sectors. Susan has devoted her career to public service as a lawyer, a local official, a federal prosecutor, and a workforce development leader. In Indiana, Susan has helped develop and implement solutions related to public safety, homeland security and counter-terrorism, and job training and creation. For the last four years, Susan served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Ivy Tech Community College. During that time, she led statewide workforce development strategies aimed at improving job training and placement for thousands of Indiana residents. Susan has devoted countless volunteer hours to numerous civic and community efforts to improve the lives of Hoosier children and families.

Jackie Walorski (IN-02): Jackie Walorski started her career as a reporter at WSBT-TV and later worked as a Development Director to raise funds for local colleges and universities. After moving to Romania, Jackie and her husband founded their own agency and local foundation to help provide much-needed medical supplies to the country’s impoverished children. Returning home, Jackie was elected to her first of three terms in the Indiana House of Representatives in 2004. In the State House, Jackie made her mark by leading the fight to cut taxes and eliminate wasteful spending.
