Republican Vernon Parker, who is locked in a tight battle with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema for the swing seat in Congressional District 9, will deliver the Republican weekly address on Saturday.
House Speaker John Boehner chose Parker, a former Paradise Valley mayor, to give the address. He will follow President Barack Obama’s weekly radio address.
Boehner, in a prepared statement, called Parker one of the party’s rising stars and said he is eager to hear his remarks.
"We need principled leaders who will come to Congress and join Republicans in the fight to help create a better environment for jobs growth by addressing our looming debt crisis and stopping all the looming tax hikes which, according to Ernst & Young, could destroy up to 700,000 jobs,” Boehner said." Vernon Parker is an independent thinker and a rising star in the Republican Party who is committed to listening to the people of Arizona and restoring the American Dream. I’m sure Vernon will do a great job outlining what is at stake in this election, and I’m looking forward to hearing his address.”
Cory Fritz, a spokesman for Boehner, said Parker and the speaker met briefly last week in Washington. He said Parker is the first House candidate this cycle to be chosen to deliver the radio address.
"We feel like he's in a great position to win on November 6th,” Fritz said in an email.

Congressional District 9 includes parts of Paradise Valley, central Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler and Ahwatukee Foothills. It was added this year during redistricting to reflect population gains during the 2010 census.

Vernon Parker Is First Congressional Candidate to Deliver National Address in AZ09.
Phoenix, AZ – Vernon Parker is humbled to announce that he will be giving this Saturday’s Weekly Republican Address. Parker was hand-selected by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to give the address, the first Congressional Candidate to receive such an honor.
In selecting Parker Speaker Boehner said,"We need principled leaders who will come to Congress... Vernon Parker is an independent thinker and a rising star in the Republican party who is committed to listening to the people of Arizona and restoring the American Dream. "In radical leftist Kyrsten Sinema’s new ad she claims to be a friend to moms but called them ‘leeches,’ and Sinema claims she protects kids but voted to kick 280,000 of the neediest Arizonans off of Medicaid. It’s the latest example of Kyrsten Sinema saying one thing to get elected, but doing another in office,” said Alyssa Pivirotto, Parker's Communications Director.
FACT: According to a January 20, 2011, Arizona Daily Star article,"State Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Olivia Cajero Bedford voted Thursday to allow a bill to move forward that would authorize the state to ask for a Medicaid waiver request from the federal government.”
FACT: According to a April 13, 2012, Phoenix New Times article, Sinema said"’These women who act like staying at home, leeching off their husbands or boyfriends, and just cashing the checks is some sort of feminism because they’re choosing to live that life. That’s bullshit. I mean, what the f*** are we really talking about here?"

Phoenix Television Station Calls New Attack Ad Claims Against Vernon Parker"Fiction” AZ09.
Phoenix, AZ – On the same day the Vernon Parker campaign demanded that a defamatory ad be pulled from all Valley TV stations, ABC15 released a fact check on that ad ruling almost every claim"FICTION”.

Claim #1 from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ad:
"Parker touted a plan that would replace Medicare, leaving seniors at the mercy of insurance companies, costing them an extra $6,400 a year.”
The FACT? ABC15 labeled it FICTION saying:
"In an interview earlier this month, Parker does talk about looking at entitlements when asked about the Paul Ryan budget but doesn’t reference Medicare specifically. In fact, just a few moments later in the interview Parker says, ‘we have to honor our commitment with seniors.’

"Parker would end the Social Security guarantee.”
The FACT? ABC15 labeled it FICTION saying:

Ridiculously Misleading! DCCC Ad Uses a Facebook Page"Like” for Justification in False Attack in AZ09
Phoenix, AZ – Today, the Vernon Parker for Congress campaign reacted to the false and misleading ad created by the DCCC, which lied about Vernon Parker’s position on cuts to Medicare.
"I unequivocally oppose any plan to cut or replace Medicare. I have publicly and repeatedly stated this position throughout this campaign. To have the DCCC clearly lie about my record is another example of how desperate they are to fool the voters,” said Vernon Parker.
AD CLAIM: Parker touted a plan that would replace Medicare, leaving seniors at the mercy of insurance companies...costing them an extra $6400 a year...
But according to the DCCC’s own website, www.dccc.org/races/district/arizonas_9th their justification of making this attack, was that on Facebook, Vernon liked a comment about Paul Ryan.

Phoenix, AZ - Vernon Parker released his latest TV ad focused on his commitment to the voters of CD9 –"Vernon won’t quit ‘til it’s done”.
Vernon Parker has never quit, overcoming massive odds to achieve success in his life. Vernon was born in abject poverty, lived in a drug-infested neighborhood and was raised by his grandmother who had to work her entire life just to put food on the table. Despite that, Vernon put himself through college and law school, built a successful career and dedicated himself to giving back. He never quit his fight to overcome the odds and won’t quit fighting for the people of Arizona.
