ICYMI Cook Report"Kirkpatrick's ruffled relations with tribes”

The Cook Political Report covered CD 1 in their write-up yesterday of the most competitive House races in the country.

Cook points to"Kirkpatrick's ruffled relations with tribes,” noting that the"Navajo Nation tribal council just declined to endorse her.” According to the piece, Kirkpatrick’s missteps have left Jonathan Paton with a"big opening.”

AZ-01: NEW SEAT – Northeast: Flagstaff, Navajo Nation, Casa Grande
Toss Up. Democrats were bullish earlier in the year on former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick's comeback chances in this favorably redrawn Northern Arizona seat, but both parties admit the outcome here is now in doubt. Kirkpatrick's ruffled relations with tribes (the Navajo Nation tribal council just declined to endorse her) and a poor editorial board meeting (the Arizona Republic called it a meltdown) have given GOP state Sen. Jonathan Paton a big opening. Over half of voters in Arizona vote by mail, so there's not much left either side can do.
