PHOENIX – While the biggest campaign story last week was the Obama Administration’s attempt to curry favor with Latino voters through temporary and limited deportation deferrals, Governor Jan Brewer’s competing Executive Order reinforcing Arizona’s existing ban on public benefits for illegal immigrants led to a curious response from Democrat Richard Carmona, candidate for U.S. Senate.
Carmona, recruited to run by President Barack Obama and asked Friday by a television reporter about Brewer’s order, had nothing to say.
"Richard Carmona became a Democrat and got into the race because the President asked him to, and immigration was going to be the topmost issue in their plan to increase support among Latino voters, which included suing Arizona over SB 1070,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert."But Carmona has now gone flat on this issue, he knows he’s running uphill and needs to lighten the load by dropping his unpopular political baggage as quickly as possible.
